Simple DIY furniture: benches

Here are a couple of DIY benches that would provide casual and attractive seating indoors or outdoors. They would be easy to make, yet they are very good looking with timeless designs.

You could build this 2nd bench with armrests as well. Original design by JohnnyBlue.nl.

Live on porches and patios

I am a fan of life outdoors. Eating, sleeping, a coffee break, a conversation...etc, almost any activity can be improved by taking it outside, and covered porches/patios/balconies extend the time you can stay outdoors by protecting you from the sun when it's hot and from rain and snow when it's not. Front porches are especially great since they increase curb appeal. They also improve neighborhoods and bring neighbors closer together in my opinion. Plus it's fun to raise your glass as people go by!

Casual and comfortable outdoor areas

Outdoor areas should be comfortable, casual, and cozy. Especially outside, perfection is not a good look. Aged, imperfect, cared for but not anally maintained spaces are the best.

Live outdoors!

Combine the coziness and comfort of a living room type set-up with the charm of a pleasant landscape, and you get a very appealing outdoor space.

Random inspiration

Let's make life comfortable, casual, and beautiful without being pretentious. Style does not have to cost a high price, or be exclusive, or come at the expense of impracticality or discomfort.

CCC - Casual classic couch

This classic couch is so iconic just the sight of it is comforting! I also love that they used an adirondack chair indoors!

Homey home & patio

Casual and cozy place with lots of inspiration; some color, natural textures and materials, access to outdoors, and easy-to-maintain stuff always make life better!

Casual landscapes and an amazing shower!

Amazing shots of easy-going exteriors... That green roof and the shade"sail" (or cloth) are amazing. Fabric is always an effective, practical, and inexpensive way to create shade and it has a great casual look.  And that shower... not the most attainable set-up but there's definitely some inspiration there!

Rustic cabin

Cool looking rustic place this one! A lot of American rustic seems to have a southwestern theme going, which is nice, but it's cool to see some rustic set-ups without that cowboy look & feel.

Tree house on a tree!

This tree house is one of the best living situations I've ever seen!  If this thing was by the water, it would be about as close to perfection as I can wish for! (Also see this!)

Colorful fabrics

Add some color to your life when you can... makes a place cozy, lively, and more uplifting... Those floor tiles in the 2nd image are pretty cool, too.

Mediterranean charm

The rough plaster on the walls, the casual shape of the bougainvillaeas, and the various shapes and sizes of rocks remind me to avoid perfection.

Free is good

Great place, causally put together with naturals materials, forms, and textures. Here's a beautiful house and what makes it beautiful doesn't cost much - actually, in most cases comes free and unprocessed from nature. Way to go!

Avoid anal homes

Precision craftsmanship has its place, like in cars, appliances, and electronics - it is meaningful in those situations, and has implications for function and longevity. However, there is no need for such precision in most areas of construction and furniture building. It's just inefficient, anal, and looks it, too. These pictures below demonstrate what can be achieved by avoiding such anal-ness: a cozy, relaxing, and beautiful home!

Pretty rustic

Nice laid-back elements: that stone wall, cozy couch, kilim rug, cool distressed leather chair, that old basket used for lighting, cabinets...etc, too many to count.
