Cool & unpretentious is a hard combo

Great images portraying an unpolished life with natural and minimally processed materials (or ingredients!)
Notice the lighting, the counter, and the rough wall in the bathroom. Everything about the patio shot with the hammock is great, the ingredients, the bread, and the cutting board are cool in the 3rd shot, and the flooring, the brick wall, and those double doors are really nice in the bottom shot. Enjoy!

Great antique wood floor

While the distressed leather furniture's cool, and the aged brick wall is, while a little on the extreme side, still pretty nice - the wood flooring is awesome!

Cozy eclectic bathrooms

I don't care for it when people go way too far out of their ways to create "witty" eclectic decors but these bathrooms are quirky enough to have great character and are still grounded enough to be unpretentious and cozy. Enjoy!

Cool place is cool

This place has cool wooden panels and shelves in the bathroom, nice tiles and a kilim rug in the kitchen, and a nicely painted door out back.

Dining chairs built to last

Aged brick walls are great but I especially like wood & metal dining chairs. The metal frame keeps them sturdy for a long time, and the wood is warm to the touch and easy to wipe. Both materials also get better with age imo.

Wooden countertop

An environmentally friendly option for a counter top option... It would be warm to the touch, easy to re-sand and polish, and looks great!  The exposed brick wall is nice, too.

Comfortable style

Cozy, bright, comfortable, and easy-going living room. The plaid pillows and the chairs they are on, the exposed brick wall, some color all come together to create a great hang-out area.

Personality goes a long way

There are some details I don't like here, like that blue couch in the living room, but overall I love the combination of industrial and comfortable. The industrial elements give the place a lot of personality and also create a low maintenance place, while the place over all still feels cozy and warm.

Enjoy!

This image demonstrates what I like quite well. First of all, its not a choreographed shot of a very expensive house (nothing could be more boring, btw). It is a real house in a regular neighborhood. It is easy going, practical, not-fancy but beautiful, welcoming, and looks like its occupants are successful in enjoying the simple things in life.

Lofts

Big windows, a cozy couch, nice brick wall, and exposed power circuits make for an easy-going house.

Exposed air vent pipes, bare concrete ceilings, concrete floors, and distressed leather.. this kind of comfort is what makes a place home.

Surf Shack - Cabo San Lucas

Talk about an unpolished life! This may be a little too much for more than a limited amount of time but then again, there's a lot of inspiration in these images; using local & natural materials, not hiding the structural elements, a very relaxed and modest lifestyle... etc.surf shackBoth the inside and the outside images of the shack found on Flickr in Mareen Fischinger's photostream.

The Iron Horse Hotel

Big windows, solid, sturdy wood chairs, brick walls, and exposed ventilation pipes up above - unpretentious and trouble-free.
