Here's some kitchen inspiration... The first has great wood cabinets with knots and various colorings, and a very simple back-splash made of some cool tiles.

And this second one has great concrete floors, bare concrete walls, and a giant slab of wood for an island. Very cool, easy-going and low maintenance. I prefer smaller kitchens, this is almost a professional size kitchen, a bit of an overkill if you ask me in a domestic setting, but the ideas are great!
